Ways You Can Improve the Symmetry of Your Breasts

Having symmetry is considered an attractive quality — not just on the face, but also the breasts. While it is not unusual for breasts to look dissimilar, if your breasts appear visibly mismatched, you may consider cosmetic surgery to achieve symmetry. Beyond looking irregular, breasts that are of different sizes, shapes or positions can make finding the right bra or bathing suit difficult.

Dr. Scott Green is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Sacramento. He has experience performing surgery to help women have breasts that look like mirror images of each other. Among the procedures he offers for correcting symmetry are:

Breast Augmentation

Breast implants are the most popular way women choose to improve the symmetry of their breasts. With breast augmentation, Dr. Green artfully creates breasts that correspond in both size and shape. Breast augmentation does not need to mean dramatically increasing the size of the breasts: small implants are great for improving symmetry without significantly changing the size. Of course, if you would like to enhance the size of your bust, that is also achievable with this surgery.

Breast Reduction

Another option for improving symmetry is to decrease the volume of the breasts with breast reduction. By removing surplus breast tissue, Dr. Green can ensure that the breasts are in harmony with each other. It may not be necessary to remove too much tissue to make them even, though you can always choose to downsize as much as you would like to achieve your ideal proportions (and likely cut down on back and shoulder pain).

Breast Lift

When you have one breast that rests lower on your chest than the other, breast lift may be the ideal solution. During breast lift surgery, Dr. Green removes extra skin from the breasts so that they can sit in a higher, more youthful position. While it is possible to just lift one breast to match the other, you will probably see more benefit from lifting both to achieve lasting and uniform rejuvenation.

Nipple Resizing

If most aspects of your breasts match except for your areolas (the dark circular pigmentation around the nipples), then you may be a good candidate for nipple reduction. This surgery removes some of the surplus areola tissue so that nipples correspond. Dr. Green can also perform surgery to address nipple inversion so that both nipples point outward. Just be aware that if your nipples rest at different positions on your breasts, that is probably best addressed with breast lift surgery.
