Having a sharp jawline is a trait that is considered attractive in both men and women. Undoubtedly, that is why so many patients of Dr. Scott Green, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Sacramento, consult with him about attaining straight, chiseled angles on the lower part of their face. In this blog, Dr. Green reviews some of the best procedures for adding definition to the jawline.
One way to add appealing shape to the jawline is to strengthen the appearance of the chin. A recessed or “weak” chin minimizes the jawline. Most chin augmentation procedures involve a small silicone implant that rests against the chin bone to add shape to the face. You can choose a size and shape that puts the proportions of your face in better harmony and helps to extend the lines on the underside of the face.
Another option is with fat transfer. This procedure involves moving unwanted, surplus fat cells from another part of the body (like the abdomen) and relocating them to an area that can benefit from some fat like the chin. Because the body recognizes its own fat, grafted fat thrives in its new location. Although chin implants look and feel real while being very safe, you may prefer to have your own fat rather than a synthetic object in your face.
Though you may associate facelift with tightening the skin to remove lines and wrinkles, the surgery is just as effective at improving the shape of the jawline. As fat accumulates and settles at the bottom of your face, the sharp angles you once enjoyed may become rounded or “jowly.” With facelift, Dr. Green can remove excess fat and skin to restore definition to your lower face for a more chiseled jawline. Your face will also look significantly rejuvenated after surgery.
No one wants a double chin. Unfortunately, fat cells can be particularly stubborn around the chin and neck: even if you manage to lose weight in other areas of the body, the thickness around your chin may remain, ruining the nice, natural shape of your jawline.
In addition to tackling unwanted fat deposits around the waist, abdomen and thighs, liposuction is a great way to eliminate fat just beneath the chin (AKA submental fat). Dr. Green can perform tumescent lipo, laser-assisted liposuction or ultrasonic-assisted liposuction in his office, each with its own set of advantages. During a consultation, Dr. Green can explain the differences between these forms of liposuction and make a recommendation in accordance with your personal preferences.
