The Cosmetic and Physical Benefits of Labiaplasty

A vagina has two sets of lips, which are called labia: the labia majora (the outer lips) and the labia minora (the inner lips). Because labia come in various sizes, shapes, and tones, some women choose to enhance their vagina with labiaplasty. This surgery addresses the labia minora to ensure the vagina has a tighter appearance and is contained within the perimeter of the labia majora. In this blog, Dr. Scott Green, a prominent plastic surgeon in Sacramento, shares some of the ways women can benefit from labiaplasty.

Cosmetic Upgrade

The top reason women seek labiaplasty is for cosmetic purposes. As women get older, their skin becomes looser, and they may miss the tighter-looking vagina they once enjoyed. Women deserve to feel attractive and confident in their own bodies; making modifications to the labia is a safe and effective way to facilitate this.

The Ability to Wear Tighter Clothing

Women with large labia feel more self-conscious in tight attire such as yoga pants, swimsuits, and leggings because it can create a noticeable bulging. Rather than wearing loose clothing at the gym or pool, women who have had labiaplasty can wear exactly what they want without worrying about having prominent genitals.

Better Sex

Women who have labiaplasty report an improvement to their sex lives. So much of sexual pleasure is mental, so when a woman lacks confidence in her vagina’s appearance, she may have more trouble feeling sexy in the moment. By reducing the size of her labia, she often feels more interested in having sex.

It can also improve sex from a physical standpoint. Women with excess labia tissue sometimes experience discomfort during sex due to the friction, so reducing the tissue can eliminate pain. Furthermore, labiaplasty typically makes the clitoris more accessible, which can heighten pleasure and orgasms.

Easier Urination

Labiaplasty is sometimes recommended for women who have difficulty peeing due to their labia obstructing their urine stream. It may also be appropriate for women who frequently have urinary tract infections since an enlarged labia may catch and hold onto more urine, sweat, and discharge than normal.
